SoGoPro Street Team Article Series: SoGo Movie Mania!

For my second review I'd thought I would choose a little movie called Empire Records. My reason for picking this movie is A. because it's filmed in Wilmington, NC and B. because it has been one of my favorite movies since I can remember.

I'll first say that this movie is not an award-winning film. The characters are a bit stereotypical. It's also not the most recent film either; it was released in 1995. But I think that it's a fun movie and maybe it some of you can relate to it.

Empire Records was directed by Allan Moyle and stars (reminder: this was before most of the actors were famous) Liv Tyler (The Lord of the Rings), Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones' Diary), Anthony La Paglia (Without a Trace), Maxwell Caulfield (Grease 2), Rory Cochrane (Dazed and Confused) and many more. It's about a group of teenagers working at a record store that will soon be converted into the chain-store, Music Town. Trying to save the store, Lucas (Cochrane) decides to take the days' cash receipts to Atlantic City!! But fails miserably and loses everything. Now it's the teenage employees' jobs to come up with a better a idea to save the store.

Like I said before about the stereotypical characters, Corey (Tyler) is the Harvard-seeking student who works hard but cracks under pressure. She is also obsessed with singer, Rex Manning (Caulfield). Corey's friend, Gina (Zellweger) is the "friendly", free-spirited girl of the group, but wants prove to the others that she's more than just a flirt by showing off her singing chops. Lucas (Cochrane) takes on a "philosophical" attitude towards his disastrous mistake and tries to make everyone know that everything will be okay. Included in the bunch, is the boss-man Joe (La Paglia), an artist that is in love with Corey, a conflicted rebel that does not take a liking to Gina, and so much more.

Empire Records makes you realize that everyone is different, but we can still get along by looking past the outer exterior and discovering that we might actually have a lot in common. It also teaches us to follow our dreams, take chances, stand up for what we believe in, and to at all possible not get stuck working at record store for the rest of your life. :)

Also, check out the awesome soundtrack if you're a big 90's music fan. It includes tunes by Gin Blossoms, The Cranberries, Toad the Wet Sprocket, etc.

My review for Empire Records: 1/2 SGP Wristbands!
