“
Words hold so much weight. We can destroy people with
them. We can also rebuild people, encourage, defend,
and love people with them.”-Hilarie Burton, Read the Entry
I picked this quote for August because it is one of my favorite things that she has ever said. Hilarie is an amazing writer who has a great way with words. The woman is writing a novel and a children’s book…therefore she wins. Back to the quote, Hilarie is telling us about the importance of words. I’m a person who doesn’t think before they speak and I will be the first person to admit that. If we take the time to say what is in our hearts and to tell the people around us that we appreciate them, we will certainly feel much better. In this instance, the “actions speak louder than words” theory does not apply. Holding a door open is nice but the “thank you” that comes after the action is what makes a person’s day that much brighter. Yes, smiling at someone you pass by on the street is a good gesture but if you say “hi!”, surely you’re already uplifting someone’s spirits. Dr. Seuss once said, “those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.” Say something sweet to those who do matter because in the end, you’ll feel better knowing you brightened a person’s day
