After suffering from listening to some new artists I thought I would stab myself in the eye. One hopeless after another, and then, for my sake - Lissie (Elizabeth Maurus) came along. Her effortless folk rock style with a little hint of blues swept me of my feet. Groovy, catchy was all it took to give her a closer look. Illinois native was fascinated with music from early age and decided to pursue it as career possibility after graduation. During her college days she opened for other artists until she started collaborating with DJs and started her first recordings. Her songs were featured in tv shows and her first EP was released in 2007. After being noticed on MySpace she was offered to open for Lenny Kravitz during his tour. Her second EP Why You Runnin was realeased in 2009 by Band Of Horses' Bill Reynolds and was claimed Eight Most Auspicious Musical Debuts of 2009.
Now, signed with Sony Records, Lissie released her debut album Catching A Tiger in June 2010 with hit singles including 'In sleep', 'When I'm alone' (video below) and 'Cuckoo'.
Her rusty but warm voice sounds amazing live or recorded which raises her value as an artist. Real talent she has is very rare and it is extremely easy to notice that Lissie really does feel the music. She quickly became a next best thing and mainstream sensation. Her style is eclectic mix of rock, folk, indie with blues and oldies and you clearly can hear her inspirations on debut album. But, her songs do defend her as an artist and there are quite a lof of highlights on the album. On a rainy day when on bus her album is a great cheer me up treatment everyone needs. Check out her single When I'm Alone and I'm sure you will understand why.
xoxo,
Kasia
