Descending with torches, pitchforks and possibly bulldozers

Over 250 members and over 3000 pictures, darn it we truely have an astounding wealth of talent on our group pool, but guys beware, the torches, pitchforks and bulldozers are descending on our page - its spring weeding time ! There are some fabulous photos on the street team page, but some seem to have got a little errrrr lost en route to more appropriate groups and have settled with us.

So, heres how you guys can help with the weeding - the first step is to get y'all to help us by tagging your photographs. All you have to do is when you upload new pictures, click 'Add Tag' and type in one of the below labels that applies. Using the " " marks will enable you to type "SoGoPro and the last part of the tag" .

Our tags

"SoGoPro Crew" - crew with merch or just merch

"SoGoPro Nature" - surely no explanation necessary, but try to go easy on uploading too many of the same

"SoGoPro B&W" - some awesome black and white images

"SoGoPro Street Team Travels" - holiday snaps are NOT what we are looking for rather foreign things reminding you of SGP (Geo tag to locate on map)

"SoGoPro Spooky" - anything creepy/spooky eerie

"SoGoPro Art" - anything we class as 'Art work' rather than pictures

"SoGoPro Christmas" - Christmassy pictures/secret santa pictures

Please only submit pictures taken by yourself or properly attributed (familiarize yourself with basic intellectual property rights)

Helpful hints to avoid the bulldozers

1. Remember you don't need to systematically upload all your pictures to the streetteam group. People can still see them by checking out your own photostream, quality over quantity y'all!

2. Use the tools you have to explain why you think your picture merits to stay profit from the presence of the description box to explain its worth... share why you think your picture should be there

3. Copy and pasting can be your best friend when tagging and remember, multiple tags are permitted

4. Use the geo tag button to put your pictures on the map it helps us see where these little gems were from

5. Make friends - add people to your contacts it is fun!

thats it for now a+

all things music...

The passing of SGP's first anniversary made me think about when I joined this wonderful community and what I was doing at the time.
Then I remembered, the 26th of July, the day after I signed up I was playing the last game of Netball I probably ever will.  That day my body betrayed me.  My knee collapsed as I landed, and that night not being able to move I sat on my Mac Book and watched every single Vlog the Hellick had recorded; and the next day I started on the blogs…
It was a memorable moment for me on so many levels, and I was kind of curious how everyone else threw themselves into this world?
Kendall asked what artists from past podcasts have become a part of our lives.  I’ve been slowly becoming familiar with each and every single artist and band SGP have supported.  As a result I have become a new fan of a great many of them.  So to choose just one is going to be particularly difficult for me.  Not to mention the fact that I’ve still not gotten through them all.  I like to take my time.  So perhaps I may update with my thoughts at a later date.
I completely love the work of Bibis Ellison.  Though with her aside there are a great many more from the podcasts that have truly hit a mark with me.  Not to mention SGP’S ‘Music Monday’ suggestions, the lastfm page, Hilarie and Nick’s pickings, Pedestrian playlist...and a great many, many, many, many more.

Though the stand outs for me personally are as follows:
‘Pearl and the Bear Band’ are simply beautiful.  Perfect for taking with you to the beach, laying on the sand, closing your eyes and just letting the music carry you.
It’s fun, and cruising.

I could paint all day to ‘The Rest’ they just have this really mellow, relaxing sensation.  Of course what I choose to listen to would ultimately depend on my mood at the time; this one would be for a good day.

‘The Low Anthem’, totally in love with the old sound they have going.  It’s porch worthy.

‘Wakey Wakey’ are most definitely astoundingly chill worthy.  I am in love with 'War Sweater' (listen to it) The message really hits home for me.  And it's songs like this that I live for.

I consider 'Gabe Dixon Band', a ‘put the top down on your car and just drive’ band.  I really love these guys.  …and for that reason I would have to say that so far I’m vibing on them most!
‘Disappear’ is insanely sweet.
“Music calls us home when we’re looking for the answer”, ‘Music calls us Home’, Gabe Dixon Band.  You can’t put it any simpler.

I honestly don’t have a favourite just yet.  They each bring something different to the table and as a result I can not make a decision just yet when it comes to voting.  Plus there is so much more I still need to listen to and familiarise myself with.
The idea of supporting each of these bands and purchasing their albums, leaves me absolutely excited and beyond thrilled.  Unfortunately I have to pace myself as I’ve not been blessed with an endless supply of cash.  Never the less, there are great many tools to listen to music online via lastfm and myspace, and I’m happy with that.
While I can not play an instrument and compose music I have a huge appreciation for it.  It’s an art all unto itself.  To be recognised is a hugely satisfying accomplishment.  And to have a song move you to tears, offer realisation, hold a sense of hope, release bottled up anger/stress/an emotion of any sort, is greatly satisfying.
If you haven’t checked out SGP’S Street Team Music Page yet, you really should spend a couple of days rifling through it all.  And yes I mean days, possibly even weeks!
Do yourself a favour and open up a page and listen to the bands and artists tracks, you may just discover something magical.

Sucessful Secret Santa 2009

Dear all,

Apart from a couple of last minute panics with gifts not getting to destinations on tim, and a few threatened 'beheadings' for gift opening on 24th December, the SGP Secret santa 2009 was pretty darned awesome. Thank you to everyone who played along, I hope everyone enjoyed giving and receiving the gifts this year. I know I did.

I was delighted to see the care that the steetteam took in finding appropriate gifts for people - the majority of which have never even met. It was pretty inspiring. If you want to check out the gifts that were received many have posted photos on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/sogopro.

At the same time, if you really don't know who your Secret Santa was and you really want to know, drop me an email and I shall put you out of your misery!

Thanks again, looking forward to playing again in 2010!

Flickr Group, reminder and encouragement

Well, well, we truely have an astounding wealth of talent on our group pool.
http://www.flickr.com/groups/sogopro/

Use your heads guys, explain why you think your picture merits to stay in the group pool - profit from the description box to explain its worth! Is this something Lincon Booth would have seen? Is it to show off your SoGoPro swag? Is it something Boyfriend and Girlfriend would have seen? Is it related to FUCT, or is it Gothic influenced architecture, gates, railings, something eerie or creepy? Or is it just darned good? Let us know your reasons and we might let you keep your head and your picture....

BEWARE though if your pictures don't relate even a little to something Southern Gothic or to a blog, or vlog or SOMETHING SoGoPro is involved in they risk getting the chop from the group! Now, beheading is a nasty business, and it leaves a real mess, so lets try to keep our pictures relevant, so we won't upset the kids.

Of course the ultimate honour is to see whether your picture will make it to the showcase on the SoGoPro site, http://www.sogopro.com/streetteam-photography

Looking forward to seeing your wares!
